RIE® Before Baby™ course for new parents

An introductory course for those expecting, waiting to adopt, or thinking about becoming a parent, Before Baby is designed to start you on your journey with confidence in yourself as a parent and trust in your baby’s unique ability to show you the way. Before Baby will help you to establish healthy patterns from the beginning of life.

Course Overview

The RIE®-certified Before Baby course is designed to prepare expectant parents and those considering parenthood for the arrival of their child. It offers foundational insights into respect-based parenting principles and encourages a mindful approach to infant development. Participants will learn practical techniques to foster secure attachment and meaningful communication with their baby.

The course covers essential topics such as trust in the caregiver-child relationship, promoting independence, supportive communication, and recognising the baby’s innate capabilities. By focusing on development, care, and practical strategies, Before Baby aims to empower parents, instilling in them a sense of confidence and capability to create a nurturing environment that promotes their child’s potential from the start of life.

Course Topics

Before Baby will help you meet the needs of your baby and establish healthy patterns from the beginning of life. Course content includes:

  • What crying means and how to respond

  • Setting up the baby’s room

  • Sleep for baby and parents

  • Bathing

  • Feeding

  • Diapering

  • Working with baby’s biological rhythms

  • Self-initiated movement

  • Using observation to guide your decisions

  • “Quality” time together

Frequency: Weekly for three weeks (can vary)

Duration: 2.5 hours per class (approximate)

Total hours: 6-8 hours total (depending on group size)
